We’re excited to share the news that Rural Computer Consultants (RCC) and our partners at Vivid Image have been jointly honored with the Summit Emerging Media Leader Award for the “Making Propane Sexy” marketing initiative. This recognition places our collaborative campaign among just 6.5% of submissions to receive honors this year – a testament to our amazing partnership and the fuel industry’s embrace of this fun concept.
How it all started
The story behind “Making Propane Sexy” is really about the fuel industry embracing something new. It all began when our Head of Business Growth, Freddie Ridler, was at the 2022 NPGA Southeastern Expo looking for ways to bring some excitement to how we talk about propane. When Freddie shared the phrase “Making Propane Sexy,” it caught everyone by surprise – and resonated in ways we never expected.
The phrase was unexpected, but it resonated because it challenged everyone to think differently about propane’s possibilities.

Teamwork makes the dream work

In 2023 Freddie enlisted the help of the team at Vivid Image. Together, they transformed “Making Propane Sexy” from an idea into a full-blown campaign. Freddie and his team at RCC and Vivid Image designed eye-catching logos and artwork for magazines, and soon “Making Propane Sexy” stickers, socks, and other promotional goodies made their debut at trade shows and meetings across the country.

The submission process required us to present our work anonymously, letting the campaign’s impact speak for itself.

Vivid Image took careful precaution to ensure their identity wasn’t revealed in the submission process. Rather, they showed the multiple examples of individuals and propane marketers outside of Vivid Image and RCC that shared on social media, talking about “Making Propane Sexy”, and other examples to help the judges make a careful decision. “…this made it a true grassroots movement,” shared Beth.

The success of this campaign is truly beyond the award recognition. It is because of the grasp the propane community has on it, how it is making propane exciting, spreading the word about propane, and bringing even more fun into the industry. Making Propane Sexy continues to spark podcasts (including episodes on our own “Fuel the Conversation”), news stories, its own hashtags #MPS and #MakingPropaneSexy, and a high demand for branded merchandise.
