My Freddie Fun Fact this quarter is about how we calculate Fill by Day and Fill by Week fuel cycles when we move into the next season. Inside of RCC, we have a table that will change you from “Summer to Winter” and “Winter to Summer” cycles. This table is called the KF table (Best to call your favorite Fuel Support person for this).
In the table, we call it spring (summer) and fall (winter). This tells RCC when to start using the different cycles set up inside of the customer hub. In the first image on the right, Summer starts May 1st and Winter starts October 1st. Typically, you use the whole cycle when RCC forecasts FD or FW. So in my example image on the bottom, RCC will forecast this location out every 30 days in the Winter Months and 100 days in the Summer Months.
But what happens when you flip fuel cycles in the middle of a cycle? Let me explain.
For instance, if my last delivery was April 15th. My summer flips on May 1st. My Winter Cycle is 30 days. When we got into May, I used 15 days of my cycle OR 50% of my Winter Cycle. So if I used only 50% of my Winter Cycle, RCC will only use 50% of the first Summer Cycle delivery. So 50% of 100 days is 50 days. So my first delivery is 50 days after May 1st or June 16th. If the location uses 35% of Winter, RCC will use 65% of the first Summer Cycle. We do this so every delivery we forecast out uses 100% of some type of cycle. This is the same forecasting we do with Fill by Week.
Yes, you can change the starting Winter/Summer Cycle date. When you know that Winter is lasting longer or came quicker, you can contact your favorite Fuel Support person to change that table and then run a program to forecast out accordingly with your new date for Winter and Summer.
