: Installing RCC MIPS
This MIPS release CD is running a new version of the installer. Part of this installer is a new patches/updates procedure for MIPS. This document will help guide you through the new install of MIPS and the MIPS updates/patches process.
INSTALLING RCC MIPS To install RCC, click the Install RCC MIPS button.
Click next to continue.
Read and check the box if you accept the agreement; then click next.
This screen has the biggest changes. 1. Choose this option if you are installing on the Server or Main computer. 2. Choose this option if you are installing on a workstation. 3. This option is for advanced users or use with help from RCC staff only. 99% of you will not select this option. 4. This is the first major change in the installer. This check box enables a computer to get notification of updates to RCC MIPS when they are available. Check this box on one computer in your office, preferably the server/main computer. If no one ever works at your server, you may want to choose this option on a workstation of the staff person who is in charge of downloading and installing RCC updates. The computer that is “patch enabled” will get notified in the System Tray in Windows when RCC has updates available for download (there is more about this towards the end of these notes). For now, just know to select this on one computer. 5. This is where you select where you want your icon to start RCC to go on your computer. In the past, we’ve automatically created icons for you on your desktop. If you have icons on your desktop and you do not want them to change, select nothing in this area. If you want to create new icons, check the “Shortcut icon location” box, then check “Desktop” or “Start Menu” or both. We will then create icons where you selected. 6. Selecting this option puts all the icons in a folder on your desktop. This is mostly for companies that have a lot of RCC data sets and do not wish to have icons all over their desktops. However, any company can select this option. Click next once you have made all your selections.
Click next to proceed.
Click Finish. RCC is now installed on your computer.
CONFIGURING A COMPUTER FOR AUTOMATIC RCC MIPS UPDATES The next portion of the document is about the new RCC update procedure. On the “patch enabled” workstation, after you log off and back on, you will get a balloon like the one below to configure automatic updates for RCC.
Click the balloon or the RCC icon in the system tray to continue.
Click Next.
The above screen shows the recommended settings for updating RCC. However, you can change the options to what work best for your company.
Please enter a Windows User account with administrator privileges. In most cases, this will be the user name and password you use to get on your computer. The example above shows the “C1” user. Replace this user and password with one appropriate for your company.
Click Finish, and automatic updates are configured. DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING RCC MIPS UPDATES
Periodically, you will now get the above balloon. Clicking on it will start the download process for RCC updates. There is an important procedural change here. Clicking on the balloon only DOWNLOADS the updates and gets them ready to install. This means that you can keep working in RCC while the updates download. This should significantly reduce the time it takes to update the RCC program. If you chose the suggested option of having updates downloaded automatically when they are ready, you will NOT get the balloon displayed above.
Click on the balloon or the RCC icon in the system tray to start installing updates. At this point, all users need to exit the RCC program. This step can be done at your convenience. The downloaded updates will remain available until you are ready to install them. Click on the icon on the system tray when you are ready to install them. The balloon only stays on the screen for a few moments.
Click install to update RCC.
Click next. If needed, you can check for updates manually for RCC, click on the Start button, RCC MIPS, and Check for Updates. This will manually start the update process described above.
